PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining contractor Barminco Holdings has won a A$110-million contract from miner MMG to conduct jumbo development services at the Rosebery polymetalllic base metals mine, in Tasmania.

The contract would have an initial three-year term, but could be extended for a further two years.

Barminco said on Monday that work would start in December this year, with the contract miner employing 96 people at the peak of operations.

The Rosebery mine currently produces zinc, lead and copper concentrate, as well as gold dore. For 2014, the project was expected to deliver between 80 000 t and 85 000 t of zinc in concentrate, and between 22 000 t and 24 000 t of lead in concentrate.

Barminco has previously worked at the Rosebery mine as the contractor between 2001 and 2013.

The company is also the underground mining contractor at MMG’s Dugald River zinc project, in Queensland.
