TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Vancouver-based gold producer B2Gold on Friday reported that death of an employee at the Otjikoto mine, in Namibia, which declared commercial production early last year.

The machine operator was injured at the mine in December and passed away this morning from injuries sustained from the accident, said the company.

The accident involved the employee becoming trapped between two pieces of equipment during a refuelling operation. After the accident, the injured employee was transported to a hospital in Windhoek, where the worker remained in critical condition, receiving medical attention until succumbing to the injuries on Friday morning.

B2Gold said it and Namibian authorities were conducting a thorough investigation of the accident.
