Automation technology group ABB launched its new Hoist Performance Fingerprint service product, which is designed to assess and optimise the condition of its customers’ mine hoists.

“The Hoist Performance Fingerprint is a consulting and audit service developed and performed by experienced ABB service experts, who run an audit of the complete hoist systems, which also entails electrical and mechanical parts that ensure reliable and safe hoist operation,” says ABB service mining global head Remy Lanoue.

He adds that the entire hoist system is assessed, analysed and tested using high-quality data collected from over 20 predefined points and a structured tailored analysis tool. The data then forms the backbone for any further analysis done after leaving the site. Following that, all the results, findings as well as corresponding recommendations for optimisations and improvements, are then presented to the customer in a detailed report for follow-up.

“The Hoist Performance Fingerprint is a cost-effective service that provides diagnostics, key findings and recommendations in less than a week. “By assessing and analysing all electrical and mechanical parts of the hoist system, we offer our customers a comprehensive service solution from a single source. This holistic concept is unique in the underground mining market,” notes Lanoue.

The company points out that a mine hoist system is an intensive and important carrier in the mining process. It is not only essential to keep production running, it also transports mining staff below ground. As a result, its reliable and safe operation is key for mine operators, particularly, as many countries have special legislative requirements in place defined by the respective mining authorities.

“Deploying experts for the running of the new Hoist Performance Fingerprint ensures that all these requirements are met, which allows customers to focus on their daily business,” he indicates.

ABB has worked in the underground mining business since the early 90s and can engineer, deliver, install and perform services for entire mechanical and electrical mine hoist systems of all types, including friction hoists, single and double drum hoists. Since the first hoist system was delivered in 1937, more than 700 ABB units have been installed all over the world.
