Black Rock taking women in mining to next level
ENTICING TALENT Assmang every year arranges a career exhibition for female learners from grade nine to matric to attract young females to the mining industry
Ferrochrome producer Assmang’s Black Rock mine, in the Northern Cape, is committed to embracing diversity in the workplace and taking women working in the mining sector to the next level, asserted company transformation superintendent Khanyi Tshabalala.
She said at an event hosted by training and conferencing company Intelligence Transfer Centre, in Johannesburg,
that Assmang’s management encouraged the development of women in the company.
Its objectives to see women advance were achieved through several programmes the company had in place, including a recruitment action plan for women, ensuring access of women to coaching and mentoring programmes, affording women opportunities for line experience and increasing their visibility by delegating them core business roles.
Tshabalala also noted that Assmang placed significant emphasis on women in succession planning processes and assisted women in balancing work and personal responsibilities.
Tshabalala explained that, to attract young females to the industry and specifically to take up its artisan and miner learnerships, the company every year arranged a career exhibition for female learners from grade nine to matric.
