JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) - The world's second-largest platinum producer Impala Platinum (Implats) held a meeting with labour union the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on Monday, after a small group of artisans downed tools at the company's Rustenburg operations claiming racial bias in salary awards.
Implats said in a media statement that the NUM had agreed during the meeting that no racial discrimination could be established at the company.
The miner had offered the union an independent investigation into the perceived salary differences related to relative experience and service.
A total of 34 maintenance employees remain on strike, but Implats said that its production was unaffected.
The NUM had previously warned that if the situations was not fully resolved by Tuesday it would call a secondary strike at the miner's operations.
