JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South African platinum producer Aquarius on Monday started initial production at its Kroondal and Marikana operations, in Rustenburg, after its mining contractor, Murray & Roberts Cementation, dismissed its entire workforce of 3 900 after an illegal strike action.

The strike action had affected about 75% of the underground operations at Kroondal and Marikana.

An Aquarius spokesperson confirmed that the company’s operations were likely to be back to full production by next week, although it was likely to loose an estimated 15 000 oz of platinum during the down time.
