TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Anooraq Resources is still in discussions with Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) regarding a potential deal to refinance the company's debt, the firm said on Tuesday.
Anooraq bought control of the Bokoni mine in South Africa (then called Lebowa) from Amplats in July 2009.
The firm first indicated on May 13 it was in talks with Amplats regarding a strategic review of the Bokoni assets and financing structures, and a subsequent restructuring and refinancing transaction.
Anooraq had debt of R2.5-billion, of which about R1.8-billion was held by Amplats, the company said at the time.
Amplats had also agreed at the time to take on R671-million in loan obligations that the company had with SCB and Rand Merchant Bank.
