JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum giant Anglo Platinum (Angloplat) on Wednesday reported that it had operated for four consecutive months without a fatality at any of its operations.
The company noted in a statement that it was the first time in its history that it had been able to operate for this length of time without a loss of life.
The miner reported that many of its mining and processing operations had also achieved their best safety performances ever in the fourth quarter. The Amandelbult mining operation, which includes Tumela and Dishaba mines, had more than six-million fatality-free shifts and had, for the first time ever, managed to operate for a whole calendar year without a fatality.
CEO Neville Nicolau said that the company’s improvements had been achieved with the support and help of the representative unions and the Mines Inspectorate.
