JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Diversified miner Anglo American has appointed Sir Philip Hampton as a nonexecutive director, with immediate effect.

Hampton has served as chairperson of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group since February 2009, and has recently stepped down as chairperson of food retailer J Sainsbury.

Anglo American chairperson Sir John Parker who joined the group in August, said that Hampton was the first in a series of appointments to refresh the company’s board.

Sir Rob Margetts and Dr Chris Fay would be retiring from the board of Anglo American at the group’s next annual general meeting, to be held in April 2010.
