JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum miner Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) on Wednesday reported that an employee had died after sustaining injuries from an incident at its Khuseleka shaft at the Thembelani mine in March.

The employee was injured during a rock conveyance incident on March 31, succumbing on July 9 to an infection while being treated for his injuries.

“An independent and comprehensive process is under way to make sure we fully understand the circumstances of the incident and that we learn from it in order to create a safer work environment for our employees.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased and we are doing as much as we can to support them during this difficult time,” said Amplats CEO Chris Griffith in a statement.
