PERTH (miningweekly.com) - ASX-listed Altona Mining on Tuesday reported first copper concentrate production at its Outokumpu project, in Finland.

The company expected to start deliveries to New Boliden’s Harjavalta smelter, in south-western Finland, later this month, which would result in first revenue in March.

“To reach first production seven months after starting plant refurbishment is a great achievement. This is a significant milestone for the project following closely after achieving first production from the Kylylahti mine,” said MD Alistair Cowden.

The Outokumpu project has a resource of some 15.9-million tons of copper-dominant polymetallic base metal mineralisation contained across the Kylylahti, Saramäki, Vuonos, Hautalampi and Riihilampi deposits.

The initial development of the project comprised the development of a new underground mine at the 8.4-million ton Kylylahti copper-gold-zinc deposit, with ore being trucked to the recently refurbished 550 000 t/y processing plant.
