TORONTO (miningweekly.com) - A roof fall at US coal-miner Alpha Natural Resources' Emerald longwall mine, in Pennsylvania, disabled the main conveyor line and shut down production on Wednesday, the company reported on Friday morning.

No employees were in the area at the time of the roof fall and there were no injuries, Alpha said.

"Employees are in the process of remedying the situation, and we anticipate normal production to resume in approximately two weeks," said president Kurt Kost.

"Since the Emerald mine has adequate coal inventory, we do not expect any disruptions to customer deliveries during the time it takes to repair the conveyor nor do we expect that this event will have a material impact on our financial results during the quarter."

Alpha Natural is the fourth-biggest coal producer in the US after buying rival Foundation Coal in August.
