ASX-listed exploration company Rox Resources has started an aircore drilling programme on the Fisher East nickel sulphide project located 500 km north of Kalgoorlie, in Western Australia.

The drilling programme, announced by the company last month, will test several strong electromagnetic (EM) conductors identified in the recent versatile time domain EM survey.

Rox Resources MD Ian Mulholland says: “These strong EM conductors form a cluster along strike from our other nickel sulphide discoveries in the area.

“Once this aircore drilling is completed we’ll be in a position to launch a more extensive drilling campaign to further evaluate the recently discovered Sabre and Tomahawk prospects. It is an exciting proposition to be looking at adding significantly to our existing resource base at Fisher East.”

The Fisher East project currently has a Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant defined mineral resource of 3.6-million tons at nickel concentrations of 2.0% for 72 100 t of contained nickel. This comprises nickel sulphide deposits at Camelwood and Musket, which are still open at depth. A prefeasibility study is currently under way.

Meanwhile, recent drilling at the project’s Sabre prospect has discovered a new zone of mineralisation with a strike length of 600 m, which is still only lightly drilled.

“Our Fisher East project looks like it’s a camp of nickel sulphide deposits similar to those at Kambalda, Leinster, Cosmos and Forrestania. The chances of adding substantially to our existing resource base are very high,” Mulholland says.
