JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed exploration company African Potash has set July for the start of its maiden 1 000 m diamond drilling programme at its Lac Dinga potash exploration project after appointing Italy-headquartered RCT as the drill contractor.

Drilling at the Republic of Congo-based project, which aimed to test the basin margin where favourable conditions were interpreted for the formation of high-grade potash mineralisation, would be completed by September.

“The appointment of RCT represents further progress at our Lac Dinga potash project. With two highly prospective target areas identified and a drill team in place we are now well set to commence our maiden drilling programme in July,” said African Potash CEO Edward Marlow.

The initial drilling by RCT, which was also drilling for integrated energy company Eni nearby and enabling African Potash to benefit from synergies and the use of shared facilities, included two vertical rotary/diamond drill holes to a depth of about 500 m each at two high priority targets.
