JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed African Copper’s Botswana subsidiary, Messina Copper, had restarted the shipment of saleable concentrates from the Mowana mine.

This came after the company restarted operations at the mine, during late August.

African Copper noted that the reestablishment of supply lines and on-site stores have been progressively improving over the past month and now supported the consumable and stand-by spares requirements needed for steady state running conditions.

The feed grade delivered from the pit from fresh ore exposure continued to be around 20% above the forecast feed grade of 1,2% copper for the period.

Since the restart of operations a total of 1 353 t of concentrate have been produced at an average grade of 25% copper. The circuit and concentrate specification was expected to be further optimised over the coming weeks.

“This is a further major milestone achieved by our operational team at Mowana. We remain committed to meeting production objectives and to continue to deliver on expectations. We are delighted with the results achieved over this short period which continue to show a positive trend on previous commissioning performance and move the company a step closer towards realising nameplate production,” said African Copper CEO for Africa, Chris Fredericks.
