Adani signs PPA over Rugby Run solar plant
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Indian major Adani has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) over its planned Rugby Run solar plant, in Queensland.
The 65 MW first stage of the solar plant is expected to cost more than A$100-million to complete, and will be built on a 600-ha block that is part of the Rugby Run grazing property.
Further stages of the project are set to take total generation capacity up to 170 MW.
Adani chairperson Gautam Adani said on Tuesday that the company planned to have a number of renewable energy generation projects in Australia with a total capacity of 1 500 MW within the next five years.
“We are the largest generator of solar energy in India and we aim to replicate that in Australia,” Adani said.
Adani Renewables CEO Dr Jennifer Purdie, said the PPA was a significant step forward for the Rugby Run solar plant, which was recently given development approval by the Isaac regional council.
The purchaser has agreed to take 80% of that output at an agreed rate, and the PPA will remain in place until the end of June 2030.
