Acacia appoints new COO

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – London-listed Acacia Mining has appointed mining engineer Mark Morcombe as COO effective from the second quarter of this year.

Morcombe was previously senior VP for AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi mine, in Ghana, and, prior to 2012, served as senior VP for planning and business development for Africa, supporting mines in Mali, Namibia, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea and Ghana.

The new COO, who holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) and a Masters of Engineering Science (Mining Geomechanics), also previously held various positions in Africa with Gold Fields, having started his career in Australia.
