ABx gets repeat order for cement-grade bauxite
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Australian Bauxite (ABx) has made a second sale of cement-grade bauxite from its Bald Hill mine, in Tasmania, a month after its maiden shipment occurred.
ABx sold another 5 000 t as a repeat order of the 5 557 t shipment of April 28. The company reported that the second shipment would occur in the next nine weeks.
ABx expected a third, larger sale to be agreed on in coming months, reporting that the customer required a shipment of 25 000 t to 30 000 t once stockpile sites were completed.
The sale price was confidential, but ABx reported that the prices for the cement-grade bauxite were “considerably higher” than the currently oversupplied metallurgical bauxite market.
Meanwhile, ABx also reported that a Middle Eastern cement company was interested in product from Bald Hill. A bulk sample of its bauxite had proven suitable for the Middle Eastern customer’s requirements.
ABx was preparing an offer with its marketing partner, RawMin, to jointly ship “large tonnages” into the Middle East over the next year.
