Technical solutions pro- vider Bearing Man Group (BMG) has been appointed the exclusive distributor of Garlock Sealing Technologies in South Africa, which supplies seals for various pump types used in harsh condi- tions such as the mining industry.

“BMG has been an official distributor of the Garlock range of seals and sealing systems since 2006 and is now the exclusive local distributor for these products, which are manufactured in the US and Europe to stringent global quality and safety specifications,” says BMG GM Ken Steel.

Failure to install the correct sealing system is highly dangerous, particularly in extreme conditions.

The pump packing series comprises four products, namely the 8091 Hydra-Just rotary seal, which is a concept to replace mechanical seals in industrial applications. Its design allows it to survive system upsets and the seal’s chemical- and abrasion-resistant components allow it to excel in tough applications. The 8091 Hydra-Just’s heat dissipation properties enable its seal to be maintained with as little as 2 gall/h.

The benefits of the rotary seal include routine performance in hostile applications where mechanical seals have not performed satisfactorily and the use of minimal water, which saves expensive flush procedures and impacts positively on recovery costs; it does not damage equipment, saving the cost of replacement parts; and it is adjustable, allowing it to last longer than mechanical seals.

This type of seal is suitable for slurries, refineries, bottom outlet devices, kamyr digesters and general industry.

Style 8093-DSA is designed for service in clean media such as condensate, boiler feedwater, white water and feedwater, and is suitable for more abrasive services.

It offers versatility and reduced costs because of reduced equipment wear and maintenance, flexible graphite rings that conduct heat away from the shaft, and leak reduction.

Style 5100 uses 100% Gore GFO filament yarns and a silicone break-in lubricant. This seal does not fray when it is cut; it offers easy installation and features long life and water efficiency in rotating equipment solutions.

It can be used in a range of applications, including acids, alkalis, aromatic and aliphatic solvents, alcohols, esters, petroleum and synthetic oils, steam, water, aqueous solution, air and dry industrial gases.

Style 5100 is suited for use in pumps, mixers and agitators.

Lastly, Garlock’s pump packing series offers the 8094-DSA seal, which incorporates a split model 26 for excluding solids from the stuffing box in abrasive services.

The seal features a patented cup and cone ring, requires less axial force and withstands a wide range of chemicals.

The Garlock range includes internationally recognised Klozure oil seals and a complete range of nonasbestos gasket materials, that comply with strict environmental regulations. Also available are bearing isolators and mechanical seals that provide optimum bearing protection, ensuring contamination exclusion and the extended service life of systems.

Also included in the Garlock range are expansion joints, which are designed to absorb movement and dampen vibra- tion and reduce stress on pumps, pipes and anchoring systems, while its metallic gaskets and resilient metal seals are designed for extreme conditions.

Further, Garlock manufactures elastomer seals and hydraulic components which consist of heavy-duty seals for reciprocating and rotating equipment.
