Project Owner/s
HyIron, a consortium of German and Namibian companies, and Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB).

Project Description
The project involves the construction of Africa’s first decarbonised iron plant.

The plant will use HyIron technology, which processes iron-ore in a rotary kiln using green hydrogen. Production can easily be scaled up to significantly larger outputs, owing to a modular construction model.

The project will produce 15 000 t/y of iron with no carbon emissions, to eventually ramp up production to one-million tonnes of green iron a year.

The German federal government has injected €13-million into the project.
